Andrey Kolesnikov – Chronicles of the Pre-School Age
Andrey Kolesnikov is a special correspondent for the Kommersant publishing house, editor-in-chief of Russky Pioneer magazine, and author of political bestsellers about Russia’s president, alongside a dozen other books. Among his many projects, however, is a unique one: “Ottevodstvo” (Fatherhood), dedicated to the growing up of his children.
“Chronicles of the Pre-School Age” is an honest and sincere diary of a father who watches with some bewilderment as his two-year-old son – who could not be named anything other than Andrey, so strong is the resemblance – rockets toward adulthood. Every day in little Andrey Andreich’s life is a chain of momentous events: the first bitten apple (without which he will soon be unable to sleep), the first snail encountered on the road where he forever freezes at the first speed bump. The father shares his worries, anxieties, and tenderness, describing in daily detail how his son grows, changes, and becomes perhaps a little too clever for his age.
This book is a living archive of memories, captured perhaps so that one day the grown-up Andreich can return to these pages and read about the pre-school age from which he entered the world of adults. And soon, very soon, his mischievous age will begin. The chronicles are complemented by illustrations from artists Inga and Lyosha Aksyonov, created in an almost reportage style yet full of artistic reverence.
