Dmitry M. Trofimov – Results of Remote Studies in Oil and Gas Exploration
This book summarizes decades of research (from 1988 to 2014) on the application of remote sensing in integrated oil and gas exploration. The study is based on field-tested remote methods across various oil-and-gas-bearing basins in Russia, CIS countries, the Middle East, and South and North America, each with distinct geological and landscape conditions.
Statistical evaluation shows that the confirmation rate of predicted structures by seismic surveys ranges from 0.7 to 0.9, while the forecast of hydrocarbon potential stands at 0.6–0.8. This geological effectiveness relies on a combination of multi-temporal radar, multispectral, and thermal infrared imagery, which provide continuous data fields with high amplitude and spectral resolution. These methods yield new information that plays a key role in integrated interpretation of remote and geological-geophysical data.
A central argument for the effectiveness of these techniques is the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in Russian basins, as confirmed by official sources.
Intended for oil and gas geology professionals, senior and mid-level managers in petroleum companies, and students and postgraduates in geological exploration programs.
