Monograph: Chinese Character Writing – A Multidimensional Analysis
This academic work offers a comprehensive study of Chinese character writing from diachronic, classificatory, psycholinguistic, structural-categorical, and digitalization perspectives. The author establishes criteria for dividing languages into syllabic and non-syllabic types, illustrating syllabic language characteristics through Vietnamese, Lao, and Chinese examples. The monograph systematically categorizes global writing systems, identifies classification approaches, and refines Chinese language typology within each framework.
The research clarifies explanations for the emergence and diachronic development of Chinese character writing, presenting historical periods for major new calligraphic styles and the evolution of writing tools and media. It describes the ontogenetic acquisition mechanism of Chinese characters, based on analysis of modern original textbooks used in Chinese primary schools. The psycholinguistic mechanism of recoding texts from pinyin transcription to character writing by native speakers is also investigated.
Additionally, the author establishes percentage ratios of users employing different character input methods on digital devices and identifies simultaneously input units for each method. This work synthesizes theoretical reflections on the author's research and can be applied in teaching practical Chinese language courses, Chinese language history, and linguistic theory. It is also valuable for developing textbooks, character dictionaries, and teaching methodologies for training researchers, translators, and Chinese language specialists.
